How to Use QR Codes

You may have noticed that QR codes are appearing on various geography documents, such as the independent enquiry sheets and glossaries of key terms. When scanned these codes will take you to a related video, game or website.

QR codes can be scanned using a smart phone's camera or a computer's webcam. Most smart phones will already have software for reading QR codes, if yours doesn't there are many free apps available. Two of the best QR code readers are QuickMark and Google Googles.

QuickMark can scan and create create codes and is available for Windows, Windows Phone, Mac OS X, iOS, Android and Chrome.

Google Goggles can not only read QR codes but is also able to identify a place or object you take a photo of, such as a landmark or famous painting. Google Googles is free to download from the Android Market or Apple's App Store.
